It is very difficult to try and twist the mind of our fellow human beings, but sometimes they are easily convinced when given strong evidence. What is therefore the difference between persuasion and making an argument?
Persuasion vs. argument
Persuasion is the ability to convince your readers into accepting your opinion. How do you sway your readers? Get points to argue on providing full evidence to make them change their minds. Therefore when you commence your research, find good answers for your problem, argue them well to be able to persuade your readers. The answers are your claim/your opinion.
How do you write good persuasive papers?

The first thing you need to do is to find strong evidence that is not easily debatable. After stating your opinion give points and sub points as support .Present your ideas well by giving more elaborations on your evidence. Presentation of irrelevant ideas to the readers cancels out the persuasive nature of your essay.
An argumentative essay must have an opposition and proposition side. Part of your readers must be either of the two sides. Here are two ways on which you could talk about
With this method you only need to find strong evidence to weaken the opposing arguments.
There are some instances which you have to agree with your opposite side no matter what. In such cases make arguments that favor your side. Show that the benefits are greater than the costs.
Tips on persuasion writing
- Be clear throughout your persuasive essay. Readers should not read signs of confusion in the middle of your essay
- Provide claims based on facts and those based on values

There are different types of evidence that writers use to make a persuasive essay. Data is generated by human beings who are not perfect. Research has shown that not all the evidence writers’ use is imperfect or false. Writers use the imperfect evidence to make perfect conclusions to convince the readers.
This involves testimonies about scientific or professional issue given by a person qualified to testify because of familiarity within the subject. For instance testimonies given by pharmacists, economists and other type of researches are always based on facts. This people are experienced in their fields and any evidence produced from them is based on total facts.
The information they provide thus is of three types
- Informed opinions
Information based on facts is incontrovertible. This means as long as anyone is experienced in his field, finding facts is an easy task.
This type of information is applied according to recent happenings. For instance a researcher can conclude that fruit Y is healthier than fruit X due to the current ratio that shows consumption of fruit y is high than consumption of fruit x. Some researchers would disagree with that. Therefore the conclusion that fruity is healthier than fruit x is an informed opinion.
Speculations are messages that express an opinion based on incomplete evidence. It is very common for people to believe speculated information; therefore it is not something that should be ignored. Economists use a sample of results obtained from a youth age group and apply results to the elderly group of another population .In real sense results on an elderly group of people may differ with that of the youth.
Predictions on speculated information may also be based on particular statistical techniques using different methods leading to different predictions. Therefore in every research paper not all the information is collected accurately.
How to avoid speculated information
Check the personal details and the credentials of the expert. Check to see ill motives of the writer, conflict of interest and the evidence provided.
Statistics change within periods of time. It is therefore important to take note of the changing numbers to properly clarify for your readers. For, instances 20000 are the people who are homeless in 2003.this statistic become misleading especially when the growth population increases. Check for updated sources on statistics.
Use of illustrations
Illustrations have always made statements simpler to understand. Illustrating each makes your evidence stronger.
