Learning The MLA Style
MLA is a style for documentation which is usually used when writing about humanities, literature and language. MLA is the acronym for Modern Language Association. The said style uses concise parenthetical citations which are actually keyed in the list of works which are arranged alphabetically. This is normally found at the end of the writing piece. With the references that you provide onto the end of your paper, you are then giving credit and identify the sources that you used to write that paper. Additionally, it is required to make the references as brief as you can as you are only required to give the details needed to provide your source.
The MLA cover page makes the work look more professionally made. Some students would think that writing the cover page in MLA style is very difficult. That is the case especially when they heard about the MLA. They would assume that the paper and its cover page would be too technical for them to write. However, when they see a sample, they will surely feel the relief as it is just a simple cover page for writing in school. They will be surprised that there are only very limited information which are needed to be written in the cover.
Your professor might provide you with what should be contained in your cover page. With that in mind, always make sure to understand and remember the requirements that your instructor might give you. However, if you were not provided by your professor, it is best to know that there are actually some general rules that you may follow. Here is the default MLA cover page that you should use when you were not provided with any specifics by your professor. With that, you may want to clarify if you need to follow any requirement from him or if you will just follow the general rule in writing the cover page for your paper.
Here are some points to remember for your MLA cover page format: It should be set double-space
- The letters that you type in must be centered
- Start writing the title of your paper by skipping around a third of the paper
- Your personal information like your name, your course, the name of your professor and the due date of your paper
- To make it look more professional, it is best to set one inch margin standard and the font size should be the same. Twelve-sized font is preferred when writing the required details and you should stick to that. You do not need to write them in bold, italics or with underline.
You will surely impress your instructors and readers if you are going to strictly follow the above-mentioned simple rules. Learn how to write your MLA format for cover page with the example shown on the next page:
The Title of Your Paper
Subtitle if any
Your Course or Class Information
The Name of Your Professor
Due Date of Your Paper
As shown above, the texts are found at the middle of the page. The font’s size is the same and only shows very limited information about the paper. That is how simple the MLA cover page is. Never be relaxed though since what is more important is the content of the paper. Another point to consider is that the last page should be written and structured well. That last page is where your sources is found. Strictly following the rules in MLA templates will definitely help. It is also a must to include every source that you have used to give credit to their work. You would want the same thing if they are going to use your writings in their work too.
