An Example of Term Paper
Just like the harsh environment has forced countless number of animals to adapt to the new changes so has the plants over the years. The planet has been subjected to harsh environmental conditions that have led to the biological life to take a different adaptation route for them to survive. The plan life has therefore evolved over the years to have different features that help them cope with these changes.
One of the plants that have been tested in every way is the cacti plant in the desert. Over the years this plant which grows in mostly arid areas in Africa has been tested by the constant rise in temperatures in the desert conditions. Therefore for year now it has grown more thorns in place of the leaves and a much thicker outer covering of the stem to prevent water loss.
The succulent plants on the other hand have had a taste of the environmental change. They are constantly facing a challenge of having little water after short periods of rainfall and having to endure long periods of dry weather. Their stem is no longer green and soft but rather they have grown a bark kind of exterior that is dull in color also to support the plant and prevent water loss.
Some plants have also changed the times when they flower. Most of them are now flowering early in the spring and by the time summer heats up they have shed their flowers and leaves and only their fruits which are ready by then are left hanging on the branches. This has increased their chances of survival in the harsh conditions in both summer and winter when the temperatures are to the extremes.
The plant family has definitely evolved over the years and without doubt they have taken a different way of adapting to the environmental challenges they have faced.
