Steps Involved in Making Writing a Success
Skills in writing happen to be essential to every student in the 21st century. But of importance to note is that writing is a complexity which combines skills and the best way to understand it is to ensure that it is broken down. This will involve breaking it down into a series of steps in order to help one come up with a well finished piece of writing. Those in the teaching world concur that having to focus on teaching the writing process will influence and help the students in understanding the latter as well as learning on how to write successfully. The most important part is that students are able to discover how constructive feedback is beneficial to their writing as well as progressively mastering the art of writing.
This is where the student plans on how he is going to write. The student has to brainstorm and come up with several topics from which he will choose the topic that interests him. This is the most important among all the writing process steps because the student is able to map out his or her thoughts. The audience, the purpose as well as the significance should be well thought at this point. This is for those students doing their thesis.
This is where the student writes down all his ideas in a manner which he wants. He should make sure that it makes sense through the organizational format that he has used. Within the steps of writing process, this is where you finalize on the purpose as well as the audience relevance. Remember that this is the initial composition of what you will write in your final document
Every time you write a document, ensure that you have made a review of the latter. Ensure that in this step, you have modified as well as rearranged your work. This means that you can delete or incorporate any information that you might left out. You also have to make sure that the tone, style and content auger well with the target audience. The main idea here is to improve the whole draft.
This is a step where the author ensures that he has proofread. This is a step which aims at rectifying mistakes that relate to grammar, punctuation as well as spelling. You also edit to ensure that you have improved on style and clarity of everything that you have written. You can get another writer to go through your work for the purposes of getting another opinion on what you have written.
This should be the last step which involves sharing the final writing with the group. You can share it through emails, printing or publishing online.
Now, we put much emphasis on this process because it also emphasizes on the value of conversation in the process of teaching. When you teach on the process of writing, students are able to be empowered and it will be easier to ask them about what they think about the whole idea. This also helps the student to handle constructive feedback as well as criticism that pertains to their writing. There is also the need to emphasize on the writing process for kids, but that will come later.
Different Points of View on Traditions and Real World Use
History has proved that educators have been struggling with the task of teaching students on how to write perfectly, focusing traditionally on the end product, so to speak.
Since the 70s, writing instruction has undergone considerable changes. Teachers now mostly focus on the ‘writing process’, rather than the finished document.
It starts with brainstorming. Some even start with a prewriting outline where they arrange ideas according to how they have formulated their topic. For advanced students, some are required to come up with a thesis statement. This means that the student will become personally inverted in the work that he has embarked on.
Most writers concur that writing can be messy, which is why there is always the need to first come up with a draft. This means that changes can be made during the prewriting stage. This is where going through every stage becomes important. Back and forth, the student will be able to add or remove unimportant material from that write up. The last step would be to fine-tune everything that has been left after making adjustments. The only thing remaining would be publishing the work to the audience, which makes the process complete.
We teach the writing process
Writing as a process is something which can be very intriguing, mystifying as well as upsetting. Some parents may find it had to teach their children writing because to some extent, they will find them defensive with regard to the criticism. This can be a source of friction between the two. For this reason, we are here to ensure that writing as a process becomes easier to any student. Ours is a focus on the process rather than the finished product. This is an approach which our writers use to encourage postponing of a closure by the student on a given piece of work until all the possibilities have been explored.
We break the process down into more understandable parts in order to enable the students maintain a positive perspective in as far as writing is concerned. We also aim at ensuring that the student masters and enjoy writing.
