The article talks about the political and financial interplay in North Korea under the leadership of President Park Geun-hye earlier than her legislative impeachment and subsequent removal by the Constitutional Court (Sang-hun n.pag.). Ms. Park rode to power in 2012 on the legacy of her father, Park Chung-hee of financial growth. The relations between South Korea and its neighbors including North Korea and China has been all-time low due to the support of the US tough line position against the North Korea’s nuclear program and growing military presence in the Asian region. Her regime has also been rocked by the corruption scandal and abuse of electricity involving collusion with a friend, Choi Soon-sil to extort tens of millions of dollars of bribes from companies that led to her downfall. The end of Ms. Park’s rule is expected to bring major political and economic changes in South Korea including closer ties with North Korea and China regarding cooperation and trade. It would also lead to constitutional changes such as curtailing presidential powers to pardon those convicted of serious crimes.

The majority of South Koreans were happy with Ms. Parks’ removal as evidenced by months of weekly street protests against the massive corruption scandal involving the top people in government and business. It is indeed sad that a president can conspire with proxies to defraud companies for self-benefit in disregard of the welfare of citizens. Moreover, Ms. Park had demonstrated on several occasions that she was not fit for a president. For instance, during the SEWOL Ferry accident when she used the media to hide the incident as she was undergoing cosmetic medical procedure yet people were dying. She also allowed a private citizen, Ms. Choi to access a speech text and earn a lot of money before announcing it to the public. In addition to acting in disregard of the law, Ms. Park seemed inhuman and insensitive to needs of the South Koreans, and therefore her removal was justified.
