Google Chrome is a freeware web browser that was released in 2008 by Google LLC. It was initially developed for Microsoft Windows but was later adapted for other operating systems like Linux, macOS, Android, and iOS. Mozilla Firefox also known as Firefox is an open source web browser that was developed by Mozilla Foundation that was released in 2002. Firefox works on devices running Windows, macOS, Linux, and Solaris.

Both the browsers are free, and one can download the setup files from the internet.

Features of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox

There are several features that both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox offer to their users. Both of them have an anti-malware tool that will warn the user if the site they are trying to access is suspicious. Custom extensions are supported in both browsers. Both browsers also support tabs that are located at the top of the application window, and a user can drag a tab from one window to another without altering its state (Varshney et al., 198). The Omnibox that allows one to initiate a search from the URL bar is a feature that is available in both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Incognito mode which prevents the recording of the online activities of a user in history is available in both.

Differences between Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox

Firefox is very user-friendly since it had made use of large buttons, menu bars that can be customized and settings that are easy to manipulate. Sites also load slightly faster on Firefox when compared to Chrome (An et al., 560). The one feature that is available on Google Chrome and is not available on Firefox is the casting feature. The casting feature allows one to look for a video on Netflix or YouTube and then proceed to play the video on another device such as a smart TV that already has the application installed. For example, if the video is from YouTube, if the smart TV has YouTube installed then it will play the video. Even though Firefox is user-friendly, I prefer Chrome since everything I need when browsing the web is easily accessible.
