"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is a saying that states that if something is operating properly, there is no need to fix it. Bert Lance used it frequently when dealing with problems in the government (Keyt, 2015). Bert Lance believed that it was wrong to fix things that were not broken and to not fix things that were broken. In my opinion, the adage is correct because there is no need to perfect something.

The Importance of Avoiding Unnecessary Changes

Change is unavoidable, but when something or an event runs well, there is no need to address any issues or problems that may arise. In companies, there are various systems in operation that need modification, but they are not supposed to be modified or fixed till the need arise particularly where technology change. Making unnecessary changes in a company can lead to firefighting situation because for changes to be made, it is always recommended to identify a problem, analyze data, select the best alternative, implement the execute the tested solution (Keyt, 2015).

Embracing the Proverb for Risk Reduction

Strategic planners in various institutions; for example public, private and non-governmental institutions should consider adopting or embracing "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" proverb to avoid risks associated with unnecessary changes or fixing. Despite rapid technology changes, it is important to lay some grounds for changes such as past problems and anticipated problems regarding the event or system in the organization (Simon, 2015).

Thorough Evaluation and Embracing Change

In conclusion, management is supposed to perform thorough evaluation before contemplating or making changes in the organization to avoid troubles such as interruption of activities in within the organization. However, changes are supposed to be embraced for the best of the companies and stakeholders such as customers, suppliers, government and the entire society.
