Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department (ZMCHD) is located in Zanesville, Ohio-Muskingum County and can be reached on an emergency hotline of (740) 624-8736. It aims at promoting, protecting and improving health within the county. It is continuously improving their skills, knowledge as well as their abilities in order to improve the community’s growth into a healthier living, learning, working as well as playing place. They also identify changes in the public health that needs to be prioritized. In addition, the facility engages in resource mobilization and reaching out to partners for their involvement in addressing the challenges affecting the community. The department’s Health Commissioner is Corey Hamilton. She holds a Master of Science in Nutrition from the Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Miami University. Currently, she heads all the operations and management activities. Previously she was the Chief Bureau of Nutrition Services as well as the program operations administrator, Bureau of Nutrition Services at the Ohio health department. Previously she worked at the Genesis HealthCare System as the Muskingum County WIC Coordinator.

Services Offered by ZMCHD

The department offers services which broadly aim to improving family and community health, protection of the community from environmentally-related illness, maintenance of death and birth records as well as prevention of communicable and chronic diseases. The public health nurse is responsible for a number of activities that include infectious diseases investigation, immunizations, senior health screening, screening for HIV and TB among patients, child fatality review, school nursing, dental sealants and car seat checks. ZMCHD emergency preparedness plans include integrated shelter support, isolation and quarantine plans, mass fatality, mass prophylaxis and mass vaccinations, medical surge as well as trainings and education. The facility needs to put in place chronic diseases testing in addition to services currently offered.
