Abortion is the societal issue I've selected. The most current and frequently discussed social topic in the world is abortion. Abortion is sometimes a contentious subject to research since it causes moral uncertainty, psychological perplexity, legal and social strife, and personal and emotional suffering (Martinelli, Baker & Newsad, 2009). In light of this, it is unclear if there can be just one viewpoint that can explain the entire phenomenon of abortion.

There are many legal, theological, and moral debates surrounding abortion. When the subject of abortion is brought up, everyone has their own viewpoint, but most people concur that it's more of a moral problem. A sociologist would be interested on the issue of abortion because it touches topics like health (abortion is a medical process and goes hand to hand with health), political (issues regarding abortion legalization have formed the basis of politics in the modern world), anthropological (there is a concern about humankind when one talks about abortion) and philosophical where various theories have been applied to try and understand abortion. Since all these disciplines are concerned with society, s sociologist is at this moment much interested.

Abortion is an interdisciplinary issue and addition of a second social since discipline would significantly help in understanding the issue even more. A social science discipline such as anthropology will help analyze the issue of abortion better as it will bring into consideration the feelings and vie of women when it comes to this issue. An anthropologist would bring to our attention the various norms and values that come into play when we talk about abortion and in the process helps us understand that abortion is indeed composed of several interdisciplinary.
