Conflict between Iran's Islamic State and the Baha'I Community

For the conflict between the Iran's Islamic State versus the Baha'I community, the conflict prevention intervention that was embraced was light intervention. This is due to the fact that the Baha'I community contemplated that if they happen to respond to the mistreatments that they were receiving from the Iran's Islamic State, the conflict would escalate to a higher level. Light conflict intervention method occurs when one of the conflicting parties contemplates that there is an obvious capacity for violence to upgrade into an armed conflict. In this case, the Baha'I community had remained victims of the conflict for decades, but they had been instructed not to partake any kind of violence. On the other hand, the scholars, clerics, and influential people from the Iran's Islamic state were advocating for violence and suppression of the Baha'is. The Iran's Islamic community had mistreated the Baha'I community in various ways, including revoking their licenses, destroying their properties, and banning them from attending Islamic schools. Despite all these, the Baha'I community did not respond to any of the mistreatments.

Crimean Crisis

For the Crimean crisis, the primary conflicting parties are Ukraine and Russia. The major causes of the conflict were the political control and jurisdiction over Crimea, ethnic grievances and concerns, as well as the crisis of identity amongst the Crimean, where some consider themselves as Russian while others Ukrainian. Apparently, since more than 60 percent of the Crimean think they are ethnically Russian, the latter have been fighting Ukraine in order to take back the Crimean, and at the same time oppressing and mistreating the 40 percent Crimean who consider themselves as Ukrainian. The conflict prevention intervention that was embraced in this case was the power mediation, which entails a third party using coercion or leverage especially in the form of threatened punishments in order to restore peace (Ronald 165-166). In this case, the U.S., the European Union, and the United Nations had gone to the extent of applying sanctions and condemning Russia for mistreating Crimean Tatars. This form of third party conflict prevention intervention is effective, especially due to the fact that it sensitizes nations from engaging in conflicts.
