Regarding Cultural Diversity

Any member of a dominant group in society who works assiduously to end all forms of oppression and discrimination, from which he or she also benefits freedom and happiness, is referred to as an ally. Ally acts in this way by accepting personal accountability for enacting the necessary social change (Rothenberg & Kelly, 2016). Allies fight to alter oppressive practices in order to help society's citizens recognize their hidden rights and happiness. Additionally, they provide the oppressed elements of society more authority. Oppression is a prolonged unjust control and treatment that benefits the dominant groups in the society and at the same time disadvantage the minority. Oppression is a broad term that is framed by racism, sexism and heterosexism (Rothenberg & Kelly, 2016). Allies are individuals who stand firm to eliminate these forms of oppression in the society. An ally is well described as an agent of change.

Being that an ally belongs to the dominant group, one campaign for change by taking the role of talking to other members of the dominant group about their behavior. An ally confronts fellow dominant individuals and makes them realize the value of peaceful coexistence. In the course of African American's struggle with racism, in the recent times, White groups have emerged as anti-racial activists that are committed to teach the white majority to uphold value of equality and cultural diversity (Rothenberg & Kelly, 2016). Giving to the fact that the allies form part of the dominant group, they possess some social power and privileges and hence have the authority to confront those who encourage violence from the dominant group. Violence is linked to oppression. Violence is caused by differences in ideologies and fight against different social groups.

Another role of ally is to provide positive role model. The behaviors of allies are always aimed at bringing change and eliminating oppression from the society. Allies behave is such ways that give young people the desire to be positive about equality, change and well being.

Social change begins with acceptance of an evil deed and then followed by the decision to embrace the good deeds. Allies work to make people realize the effects of oppression and therefore emphasizes the benefits of freedom and peaceful coexistence (Rothenberg & Kelly, 2016). Anti-racist white activists are an example of African Americans ally advocating for equality. Allies work so hard to mobilize the society, government and other groups to embrace tolerance, eliminate oppression and discrimination in the society.

One white anti-racist group called Heads up Collective emerged in 1999 to champion for global justice and promote anti-war debate. This is one ally of African American community in its fight to overcome racial discrimination at domestic level in the US. Besides, the group has been instrumental in opposing the right-wing military advances of the U.S. government launched at home and abroad after the devastating attacks on Sept. 11th, 20. In that regard, the group has effectively been involved in discouraging anti-Muslim rhetoric that victimizes even innocent persons. The group has worked to petition government against foreign wars that has effect at domestic level, promoted anti-racist campaign in support of the African Americans and other minority groups, and pushed for equality within the social construct of the United States population.
