The Struggle for Gender Equality

The struggle for gender equality has long-lasting persisted. However, it can currently be demonstrated that the course has only made a few minor advancements. Despite the fact that they have made enormous contributions to their own societies, women have typically been the ones who suffer. According to a David Olive (2016) analysis, even industrialized nations—in this case, Canada—have performed dismally in addressing the problem of gender disparity. Canada is now ranked 35th in the world for gender quality, according to the most recent worldwide rankings. Precisely, women are underrepresented in almost all sectors despite the fact that they are regarded as the major stakeholders in regional and global economic developments.

Potential for Improvement

In my opinion, I belief that the country has the potential to significantly improve its global standing in respect to gender inequality. Firstly, centering on its current status and position in the global arena, this provides the best platform to raise the issue to the appropriate agencies and the government as well. Addressing the issue with the clearest insight can help further raise increased awareness to the concerned parties (Guardian News, 2017). Taking for example, the underrepresentation of women in the law making organs, for instance the parliament, serves as a good model of how women have been overlooked in the societies. This is even worsened by the fact that women receive less in terms of remunerations though contribute equally with their male counterparts (Duncan, 2015).

Working with Women

The most profound move, however, would be targeted on working with the women by making them realize their plight (Grant, 2017). The reason to opt for this strategy is that women in most cases fail to support one of their own to competitive positions. Basically, having substantial numbers of women in vital positions may in one way or the other help easing the predicament. In the just concluded U.S. Presidential elections, for instance, it was alleged that majority of womenfolk failed to support Hillary Clinton, the only female presidential candidate in the recent history of the American politics. In fact, Canada has been beaten by lesser countries like Rwanda in terms equitable gender representations in the most sensitive areas of governance (Olive, 2016). Thus, there is the need for complete inclusion of all genders in vital sectors of the country’s economy.
