The divine Augustus came into power after the assassination of his great-uncle and adoptive father Julius Caesar in 43 BC. Augustus rule was very significant in transforming the Roman Empire. During his reign, he defeated his enemies and managed to extend the size his empire to regions like Spain and Egypt (Thomas). Augustus was important in transforming Rome from just a republic to an empire. Using a combination of military shrewdness and the rule of law, Augustus laid the foundation for the Roman peace with the empire surviving more than 1000 years after his demise. The divine Augustus rule was hugely successful. Through a series of social reforms, he transformed the city of Rome by developing beautiful and new buildings (Thomas). Augustus was able to fix the salaries of his soldiers, rooted out corruption, changed the Roman administrative system and improved sanitation. He also managed to weed out adultery in a city that was famous for promiscuity. Outside the Roman Empire, Augustus established a standing army to guard and protect the empire against external aggressors.

Emperor Augustus had several good qualities that I would wish an American President. Just like Emperor Augustus I would an American President to be a shrewd military leader with the ability to win battles at home and abroad. I would also like the President of the United States to be a champion of anticorruption campaign just like the emperor Augustus was able to rid the Roman empire of corruption.

The Pax Romana was a period when the Roman Empire enjoyed everlasting peace. If I was a Roman citizen during the Pax Romana, I would feel a lot of admiration and love for the empire and emperor Augustus for laying the foundations for peace and tranquility within the empire. Emperor Augustus was very instrumental in ushering an era of everlasting peace by defeating the enemies of Rome and ending years of civil war.  The emperor also established a standing army to guard the empire and ensured the soldiers were paid well for their service to the nation.
