The Taj Mahal is known for its rich symbolism. For example, it embodies an integrated union of a male and female that represents both sex and unity. It was also believed that it was built as a Hindu temple. But, it was constructed a bit earlier than that and, as a result, its symbolism has many more layers than meets the eye.

Construction

The entire complex is comprised of five parts, including the Darwaza (main gateway), Masjid (mosque), Bageechas (gardens), Naqqar Khana (rest house), and Rauza (main mausoleum).
