I believe that to “transition to professional nursing” means to put the theory learned into practice and mastering the art of nursing. Transitioning also means finding better ways of accomplishing various nursing tasks in the most cost-effective manner. Besides, transitioning implies getting acquainted with the workplace and learning to be a team player. Learning to establish and maintain better working relationships is part of transitioning to professional nursing. Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) graduates carry out simple nursing care, record the sickness symptoms of a patient as well as the medical history. ADNs learn how to work with simple medical equipment and work as they closely consult the doctor. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) carry out more care related jobs at the workplace. BSN nurses are given more experience to handle patients who require intensive care. They also carry out leadership responsibilities (Davis and Kimble 605). I have had a less challenging time in applying the nursing theory to my clinical practice. I have been able to carry out most of the responsibilities as learned in class. Moreover, there is only as a slight difference between the tasks in the field and nursing theory learned in class. The essentials of Baccalaureate education assist a nurse in establishing the framework which acts as a guide during nursing practice. I think the most relevant Baccalaureate essential is the aspect of inter-professional communication and collaboration to improve patient health outcomes. Communication is key to understanding the requirements of the patient and giving the correct feedback. Also, proper communication determines the relationship between professionals. Also, good communication ensures that instructions are decoded appropriately and each task is carried out to completion with minimal errors. Being a team player is the most relevant non-nursing theory as it supports the idea of professional communication and conduct at the workplace.
