I have never imagined myself being a nurse

It just was not “my thing”. Nonetheless, that was not my choice to make. As destiny would have it, here I am writing an essay on “why I want to become a nurse,” since I had a different profession in my mind.

Meeting a Wonderful Nurse

At grade school, almost every one of us had a dream of what profession we would pursue when we become adults. Most of these included Software development, Astrophysics, Nursing, Law, Medicine, with Engineering being my favourite. I never considered nursing as a potential profession for me until I met one of the most wonderful people that I have ever come across in my life.

An Angel in Disguise

It was during one of my weekly visits to my grandmother’s place. As it turned out, that day would be unlike others. Ordinarily, I would meet the nurse on duty at the lobby helping my grandmother with chores, but on that day, I did not. Instead, she went to my grandmothers’ room. The minute she walked into the room, my grandmother’s face lit up. She was sweet and benevolent in every sense of the word. She was very caring to her patients, and I was more than fascinated. This is because it is not an easy task to put a smile on the face of a chronically or terminally sick person without breaking a sweat as she did. I had to know more about her from my grandma. Her only response was ”she’s an angel”. Knowing my grandma, that statement merited further investigation. In short, the nurse’s work was touching many patients’ lives in many ways. Her care and kindness filled the patients with hope instead of sadness and despair. I realized that I needed talk with her and when I did, it was a transformative and life-changing discussion. She was not only an inspiration but also made me desire to be a nurse.

Becoming a Nurse

Consequently, while people get into different professions for various reasons, personally, following my talk with the nurse, I chose to do some research about nursing as a career. When I was done, I realized that nursing was indeed what I wanted to do. Because nursing is a kind of a hands-on job, there are several personal traits that one must have to be good and successful at it, for instance, communication skills, emotional stability, empathy, Flexibility, to name a few. My research drove me to match the qualities with many of my skill sets, and I realized that I am made for this.

Volunteering at a Clinic

Finally, when I decided to pursue nursing, I got an opportunity to volunteer at a clinic within my neighborhood. I was a great opportunity to interact with many professional nurses, and my belief rose. The manner in which they approached their duties was motivating in every way. The affection that they showed for what they do was great. Honestly, doing something that you don’t love will not only be disappointing to you but also the people around you. I would enjoy working as a nurse for the challenge of continued learning. I cannot envision sitting behind a desk for eight hours every day handling the same monotonous printed material.

Diligence and Love for Learning

Those who know describe me as a very diligent individual. I give Instructors my absolute best work since I do not expect less from myself. I have also come to understand that no one is perfect. When I study, my fundamental objective is not to get perfect scores, but to gain more knowledge and understanding of the material. Excitingly, it is with this view on academics that I have managed to get such high gradesgrade point average.
