Every workplace must have rules and regulations to be adhered to for individuals to operate in harmony. Compliance, or ethics orientation, are often referred to as these rules and regulations. Although certain firms want to comply with the laws and regulations of their employees, others require their employees conform to those ethical requirements. Ethical laws deal with the acts of human beings, especially in the workplace. If an individual is ethics-oriented, if they do not follow his or her expectations of what is right, he may also disobey the laws and regulations. Therefore, adhering to ethical standards is more of a voluntary initiative than a forced behavior, even though one can be penalized for not adhering to them.
The Ethical Issues That Assistant District Attorney Faced

Ethics demand consciousness of a person in order to realize what is right and what is wrong. Thus, on ethics, a person is left to decide on his or her own what is right or what is wrong. Some of the compliance rules that may exist in an organization are rules guarding against theft, or any involvement in any kind of fraud, arrival time in the office, and departure time, and many more other rules (Education Management Corporation, n.d). On the other hand, it is impossible to regulate something like junior employees talking about their bosses, and painting them in bad light, behind their backs. This is one problem that on ethics orientation can get rid of. Workers who adhere strictly to ethical behaviors will avoid talking behind their bosses, especially in bad light, but instead, they would share everything they have in staff meetings.

Ethical behaviors at work place are enforced by nearly all organizations. Indeed, adhering to ethical regulations is one of the secrets to the success of an organization. In an ideal situation, ethical behaviors are inculcated from top-down. This means that the bosses must lead any example when it comes to following the ethical regulations they set for the rest of the staff. If the managers of an organization adhere to ethical behaviors, the junior employees will follow suit. If the bosses do not conform to the requisite ethical behaviors, the junior employees will also not be bothered to follow them. On the other hand, if the bosses of an organization follow the ethical regulations, the rest of the employees will also follow these regulations.

As I had earlier stated, ethical behaviors are the bedrock of an organization. It ensures that an organization exists beyond just an individual or a few individuals who anchor it. The case of the assistant district attorney illustrates how bosses can fail to follow the regulations that they have helped to set up. Indeed, the assistant district attorney was involved in one of the worst ethical offenses. Child molestation and sexual abuse of children are, clearly, against ethical regulations of any organization. On top of that, they are also criminal offenses that, if proven to have taken place, can land the culprit in jail.

Therefore, the assistant district attorney had committed two crimes, on top of going against the ethical regulations. His conviction to serve a jail term further complicated issues for him. However, he had the other option of being put on probation. This is where the ethical conflicts come in for the assistant district attorney.

First of all, this was a sex offender, and his sexual crimes involved minors. Being put on probation meant that the man could still have his freedom. The risky part is that his behaviors had not changed yet. During the period, he could be on probation, there are high chances that he could meet several other children whose parents had not been made aware of his behavior. Potentially, this risked the safety of those children he could meet when he is put on probation.

On his side too, the assistant district attorney could also find himself in a difficult situation. After the court’s conviction, he became a well-known sexual offender, and this made him a branded person. People around his hometown and around his workplace could not trust him after this revelation. In fact, even his family members, after his conviction, could be highly suspicious of him. Thus, being put on probation could be like caging him, without the physical barriers of a cell or a jail. There is nowhere the man could safely go to without raising eyebrows. Some people could even intend to harm, given that they already knew he was a sex offender.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, being put on probation could, significantly, curtail the freedom of the assistant district attorney. He could face numerous ethical dilemma if let on probation. Therefore, the better option is to is to stay in jail and avoid these challenges that he could face while on probation.
