Workplace Culture and Its Impact on Women

Workplace culture works just like any other culture in society. Factors considered include, but are not limited to, race, gender, ethnicity, and religion. Different companies and organizations have their own unique cultures because we believe that organizational culture plays an important role in the success of a company. Culture is an important aspect when it comes to an industry as it defines how managers, employees, and customers should interact (Alex Baum et al. 2017). The goal of every business is always to make big profits by creating more markets, which means a conducive working environment for the employees, considerate salaries and remunerations as well as proper management which can only be achieved through workplace culture.

Gender Bias in Workplace Culture

With the current growth in technology and the issue of globalization, many organizations have been formed to fight for women to make sure that they have been given leadership positions in businesses, government, and also in society. There have been women known to be successful managers and CEOs of different big companies, but despite all this, people are still blinded by the traditional workplace culture which prefers men more than women. The majority of the bosses believe that women cannot be the right leaders because they have other home responsibilities of taking care of the children and other family issues. Owners of the industries who are men cannot hire ladies to be their CEOs because they believe that women cannot be able to control all the business activities, especially when the other employees are men. Due to this, you find that women are mostly not given chances even with their perfect qualifications for CEO and managers (Brian Tayan, 2016).

Gender Stereotypes and Decision-Making

Men are smarter than women. The workplace culture considers women's ideas to be inferior when it comes to making specific decisions for the business. Before any decisions are made in an organization, in most cases, you find that men are the only staff members that are involved because they are believed to be smarter than women. Men make decisions for the future well-being of the business without having to think about his personal life because their interest is always to be on top of others (Ian et al., 2017). Because we are dealing with the performance of the business, they will try their best to ensure that their business is on top of their competitors. When it comes to doing business, women are very selfish, and they only think about themselves and not others. Thus this is one of the aspects that hinder them from becoming good CEOs and directors. In case of any losses in the business, it is always good to have a strong leader who can be able to overcome the losses and assume nothing happened because the company has to go on despite everything and they must show a good example to their employees.

The Importance of Humility and Understanding in Leadership

A good CEO must be humble and understanding, and according to many workplace cultures, women are not humble, especially when they are made managers or directors. They tend to be more harsh and bossy to the other staff members because they want their orders to be followed, but they forget that a good relationship between the managers and the employees keeps the business on top. This is the reason we find that business owners prefer working with men because they tend to be understanding and especially to the other staff members. Men can learn from experience and apply those lessons for the future. When doing business, nobody is perfect, and sometimes mistakes are made which makes the market go down, but this is supposed to be the stepping stones for a better deal tomorrow. Men don't easily give up on something, and they press till they get what they want. This is the same way they work till they attain certain business goals which makes them always chosen as the CEO by the other workers and even the business owners (Alex Baum et al., 2017).

Implementing Quotas for Gender Equality

The best solution to the current workplace culture that prefers men on board than women will be the use of quotas. Quotas play a significant role in reducing the monetary value of goods which are exported to other countries. The government can come up with specific rules where they restrict giving quotas to companies that do not have a female representative on board. This will ensure that the number of women who are on boards and CEOs has increased because industries are well aware that they cannot be able to make better profits without quotas. Another way that quotas can help is by ensuring that those companies that have a significant percentage of women representatives are awarded at the in every year and given some added advantages (Alex Baum et al., 2017). If these strategies can be embraced, within a few years we will have the same number of women as men who are CEOs and directors.

The Benefits of Gender Equality in the Industry

Quotas will contribute to the collective welfare because we are all aware that women can do what men can do. Thus they should be given chances to participate in businesses and make decisions just like other staffs. Quotas help in changing the barriers and allow the companies to embrace diversity to achieve high profits. Gender equality in the industry means better decision-making and ethical relationships thus more significant achievements.
