My Development in Childhood

My development was mainly influenced in my early childhood. My personal growth, therefore, lies in my childhood and the events that may have happened to me when I was young. When I was a teenager, I had to think differently, and my parents had only influenced me when it was appropriate. I have been able to make sober decisions while still loving my youth. My parents weren’t overprotective, so I could experiment more.

The Friend I Found in a Cat

I’m the only one in my family. I grew up alone, but at the age of two, my mother purchased a cat that became a friend of mine. We could communicate with my new family using the cat language. I can’t tell how possible that was, but we often enjoyed each other’s company. Kitty was my pet’s name. Kitty was friendly and always seeked attention from all of us in the family although a bit shy to other people.

A Vibrant Social Life

I grew up in a city full of life. There were parties every weekend and my family used to attend almost all of them. The parties formed avenues for interaction and this boosted my social life and esteem. My family did not host many parties since I was the only child, but when they did, the whole city would attend. My father, now a retired teacher, was famous for his teaching skills and was a respected person in the estate. My mother used to work at a local hospital as a nurse and this made her a calm and compassionate woman.

My Early Love for Reading

Reading has been part of me since I was a small child. I remember when I was four years, my mother would read me my favorite story, “Winnie the Pooh.” I loved the Pooh because he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Before going to bed, my mother made sure I sang along the silly little songs. She made me believe that one gets a good night’s sleep after singing their favorite songs. I went to St. Elizabeth School for my kindergarten. My kindergarten life was that of a typical child with supportive parents.

Counting Stars with a Friend

My school was not far from my house, and I used to walk to school along with my friends. My favorite friend was also my neighbor. Our families liked each other, and we spent most of the times together. Our mothers were best friends making it possible for us to visit each other almost every day. During the night, we used to go outside and count stars. I remember counting over a hundred stars but lost the count when my mother called us to have supper. My friend too loved counting. Sometimes we would spend much time counting the number of people walking on the street.

Adventures with Binoculars

The binoculars was my favorite toy. It was a gift from my best friend’s dad during my 6th birthday. The binoculars provided better view of the stars making us admire the sky even more. A successful day would be defined by a clear view of the sky and chicken served for dinner. Chicken and roasted potatoes were my favorite food and still are. My mother had a way of cooking chicken that made us love it even more. Grilled chicken and roasted potatoes from my mother’s kitchen are still delicious to date.

Memorable Summers in the Upcountry

Spending summer in the upcountry was the most memorable occasion in my life. It was my first time to leave the city at the age of 6. The whole journey was exciting as one could observe the beautiful plantations along the road and surprisingly new world. My extended family lived in the upcountry and it was an opportunity to meet new people and interact with them as a family. I was excited to see my grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins who lived on the other part of the country. Visiting the farm and eating fresh vegetables and fruits was overwhelming.
