Amelia Earhart is the most famous female aviator, the first pilot who flew over the Atlantic Ocean. She was an American aviator whose mysterious disappearance continues to intrigue and fascinate people to this day. Born in 1897 in Kansas, USA, Earhart refused to conform to the gender stereotypes of his day. As a young girl, she enjoyed playing sports, climbing trees and playing outside with her sister. She had recognition and fame, and her mysterious disappearance still worries historians and researchers from around the world. Earhart was a record-breaking pilot, a woman who forged her own path in aviation, in a world dominated by men.

Amelia Earhart was born on July 24, 1897 in Atchison, Kansas, and from childhood she was fond of sports: she was a wonderful horsewoman, swam, played tennis, and shot from a 22-caliber rifle given to her by her father. In the winter of 1917, Amelia came to Toronto to visit her sister, where the girl was struck by a meeting with wounded soldiers who arrived from the fronts of the First World War (Garrett Jones 4-5). Since her early life, it was quite clear that young Earhart was to accomplish much in her life. In spite of challenges that came further, she managed to continue her path and follow her passion.

Impressed by what she saw, Amelia decided not to return home, but to stay in a military hospital to help with the rehabilitation of the wounded: she enrolled in a nursing course and went to a military hospital. By the end of the war, the experience gained persuaded the girl to devote her life to medicine, but there was a military airfield not far from the hospital. Amelia attended several air shows, after which she became interested in aviation (16-19). Earhart’s passion for sports made her see aviation as such, further motivating her to consider professional aviation.

Earhart first flew into the sky in 1920, it was a short ten-minute flight, and the girl was only a passenger. Amelia was so captivated by the feeling of flying that she began attending aerobatics lessons, and her first instructor was Anita Snook, one of the few female pilots in those years. During her studies, she managed to change several professions, from a photographer and cameraman to an auto mechanic and a truck driver, and tried to learn everything possible about aviation (“Amelia Earhart”). Still, Earhart felt that the sky was her calling, which would further push toward a very important decision. At the time, such a course of actions would be almost unthinkable for a woman.

In the summer of 1921, Amelia purchased her first aircraft, a bright yellow biplane, which she named "Canary" because of its coloring. The very next year, Earhart set her first world record, she reached a height of 4,300 meters, then no female pilot could do higher. n June 17, 1928 the plane took off from Newfoundland and crossed the ocean in 20 hours and 40 minutes. Earhart was on board only as a passenger, after landing she told reporters: "I was just carried like a sack of potatoes!" However, this was of little interest to the public, the only fact that everyone paid attention to was that Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic. This event was the beginning of Amelia's brilliant career in aviation, then Earhart wrote a book called Twenty Hours and 40 Minutes (Garrett Jones 39-41). Even after her mysterious disappearance during the flight over the Pacific, Earhart’s legacy has been determined, she made it into history as one of the bravest pilots of ever live.
