Retrospective cohort study design

To ascertain whether any occurrences of adolescent delinquency existed among those found guilty of various crimes, the author used a retrospective cohort study design. Using the study design, the author made care to provide a thorough introduction to the issue by citing earlier research that had been done in various locations around the globe. The study was the first one to be conducted in Australia, according to the author, who was examining the recidivism of juvenile offenders. Carcach (1999), in accordance with the demands of the study design, described the approaches he would take to conduct the study. The participants' inclusion and exclusion requirements were made very explicit. The data collected was analyzed comprehensively paying attention to the primary objective of the study. After the analysis of the data, the results were discussed justifying the findings while comparing with the previous studies other countries. Lastly, the author gave recommendations on the various ways through which recidivism can be prevented among juvenile convicts.

The author's position is that there are a minimal number of young people committing crimes in percentage as compared to the older adults. Carcach (1999), believed that there was a low rate of recidivism among juvenile delinquent individuals with a less violent crime rate as compared to those with numerous criminal records. To avoid positionality, Carcach (1999), utilized multiple sources to gather information. Lastly, the author builds his argument chronologically hence ensuring an extensive and well-informed approach while undertaking the study. Due to the extensive historical study, there minimal cases of biases in conclusion.
