Response to Concerns about Health Insurance Scheme

Thank you for taking your time to let me know about the concerns you have about our health insurance scheme. I appreciate the fact that you're well aware of what's going on in the business, and that inspired you to write a letter to us. As an organization, we welcome all input from external sources on our goods, facilities, management, and employee relations. Typically, such feedback helps us enhance our goods and services. This helps us to develop a strong consumer relationship that supports a healthy public profile. I will begin to respond to your concerns by explaining how the company decided to give selective insurance for 16 out of the 20 widely used contraceptives. Hobby Lobby as accompany went to court to dispute the Affordable Care Act's provisions since it required all the employers to provide aid that would result in affordable family planning services (Chapel). According to the law, we were mandated to cover all the forms of contraceptives in our healthcare system at no cost. This mandate would have infringed on our value system which is stipulated in our management guidelines.

Concerns about Contraceptive Provisions

One of the main concerns about the provisions of the act that prompted us to go to court is based on the fact that we believe life starts at conception. This use of four out of the 20 contraceptive methods may have an effect of inhibiting an already fertilized egg from developing any further by preventing its attachment to the uterus (Fuller). This, therefore, translates to abortion which is totally against our Christian beliefs. Some of the contraceptive methods that we do not approve of include Plan B and Ella since we believe these drugs interfere with the formation of a fertilized egg. I noted in your letter that you are familiar with our legitimate concern about why we decided to provide partial insurance that excluded the four techniques.

Employee Rights and Access to Birth Control

I certainly understand your concern about our employees' rights with regards to access to birth control services that are insured in our health care policy plan. It is important to note that we do not entirely refuse to provide insurance for all birth control methods. You had written that some of our employees would be forced to use a family planning method that is not compatible with their body because of our restrictive policy. I do not entirely agree with you since we allow our employees to access healthcare services from external sources. I agree with you that this may come at an additional cost to our female employees, but the government is mandated to provide free contraceptive services to all women in the reproductive bracket.

Company Values and Employee Discrimination

I realize that the fact we do not cover certain contraceptives in our healthcare plan may portray our company as one that discriminates against its employees based on their religious beliefs. To set the record straight on this issue, as a corporation, we place a high value on our 28,000 employees (Miller). We are aware that they come from different social, cultural, and religious backgrounds that do not necessarily rhyme with the ethical values of our organization. Our management, therefore, does not discriminate against any of our workers based on their norms and values.

Religious Freedom and Rights Implications

Hobby Lobby is therefore entitled to practice its right as a corporation under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. I am aware of the fact that most activists portray an image that the actions of the company will affect the healthcare progress in our nation, which will translate to the infringement of human rights. I utterly refute such claims since our company has not discriminated against any female or male regarding employment. The Company has remained neutral to all our employees, and we make sure they are aware of our religious stand before they decide to work with us. In addition to that, we allow our workers to seek alternative family planning services without discriminating against any of them.

Final Remarks

I hope that my response has been able to address all your concerns concerning our company and how we treat our employees who have different religious beliefs. In the event that you have any further concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the organization.

Yours sincerely,

David Green.
