The General Motors Assembly plant as I observed is one of the many work places any technician would want to be. Safety is prioritized such that the entire technician workforce wore full protective gears. There is high level of specialization and division of labor. Every employee has the expertise needed to keep the company operational. The environment is generally conducive for maximum productivity. For successful completion of my survey, I interviewed one of the plant’s technicians. The gentleman is thirty nine years old with sixteen years of experience in his line of operations, has two teenage girls, works for forty eight hours a week and earns an annual income of $8,400.

Methodology

The methodology involved qualitative research approaches. Semi-structured interview and observations were used for maximum extraction of the required data from the respondent. As informed by Bryman (23), using semi-structured questions provided me with the opportunity to mostly get specific answers while observation enabled me to record what I could observe.

Analysis of the Survey

i. Results of the survey

The inferences made from the survey were that majority of the technicians were of the age bracket 35-40. The gentle man I interacted was 39 years of age, had sixteen years of experience working in the same company, he had a stable family comprising two teenage girls and a wife whom he supports, works for 48 hours per week for a basic monthly basic salary is $700.

ii. Explanation

In a comparative analysis, it was established that the technician like other employees work to acquire certain basic needs including shelter, clothing and food (McLeod, 5). Socially, he is committed to having a stable relationship. Based on the many years he has stayed in the company, he is much satisfied with his job and loves what he does. His life seems to be well managed and values what nature has to offer him. In contrast, I am an individual who is still working to grow my career path. Even though, I can manage some of the basic needs, I find myself struggling. The difference is due to financial stability.

iii. Difference

Finally, a major point of difference is work experience. The technician is a supervisor to whom many junior employees report to; whereas I would be among the junior technicians reporting to him if got the opportunity to work with them.
