The Advantages and Disadvantages of Mobile POS

272 views 2 pages ~ 360 words Print

The current HB Company’s POS system is a legacy one that requires the manual input by a cashier. It consists of a computer with a 500 GB hard drive, 2 GB RAM, 1.6 GHz dual core CPU and a TP-Link Gigabit PCI Express Network Adapter card. It has access to a barcode reader, receipt printer, and a debit/credit card reader for payment. It runs on the Microsoft POS that is easier for cashiers to use.

Information Captured by POS

Presently, buyers have the option to pay by cash or card. In both instances, the information that is exchanged between the card and POS is the amount of money that needs to be charged. There is no extra information regarding buyer trends or any other information. It means that the evaluation process for finding the market trends can only be obtained from the company’s inventories.

Knowledge Obtainable from Mobile Ordering POS

Today’s competitive trends have driven companies to adopt aggressive data analysis tools that analyze information that is specific to a high degree and even extrapolates possible trends and market needs. Moreover, the practice of carrying cash or cards is becoming outdated. Many people prefer to spend money from their mobile wallets or applications linked to their banking systems (Rampton, 2017). The mobile platform offers this solution. It provides retailers a chance to mine information about customer buying trends related to certain products as well as the frequency. The current POS requires a new operating system that is cloud-based using solutions such as Azure or AWS (Microsoft, 2018). It also requires NFC readers and OTP-serving systems that activate payments by codes.

Data and Network Security

Security is a fundamental concern. The mobile POS would require a strong anti-virus system that is updated regularly to prevent the system from running malicious software and bugs (Martinez, 2016).
