The American Presidency

The American Presidency is considered the most powerful office in the world. Apart from the people that occupy this office, the executive in America is guided by legal and moral perspectives. Among the institutional aspects of the American executive is that the President has the powers to appoint the cabinet and members of the judiciary such as the Supreme Court Judges (Ellis 7). Also, the president of America is supposed to ensure that the law is applied appropriately and this can be done through the use of veto power. As a president in America, the holder of the office is the commander in chief of the armed forces. What this means is that the president is the only person who can command troops into war.

Term Limits and Presidential Requirements

America is a country that thrives on democracy and as such, the presidency has term limits. In the United States, a president serves for two terms. Considerably, this was introduced to limit abuse of power by the holder of this office. When someone overstays in this position, then it means that if he or she has ineffective public policies, then, the American society would continue to suffer. To reinforce this legal consideration, the Americans have the Amendment 22 which indicates that a president is supposed to serve for two terms. For unique cases of resignation, impeachment or death, Article 25 emphasises that the Vice President will resume duties as the president.

Apart from the issue of term limits, for one to vie as a president in America, he or she must meet certain conditions. First, such a person must have lived in the U.S for the past 14 years (Ellis 14). Second, it must be ascertained that the person is a citizen of America and he or she is above 35 years. The intention, in this case, is to make sure that a person who holds the office is an adult with experience.
