Impact of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) on the Company Capabilities (KPIs): a Case Study of Hilton, UK

Introduction

Multinational corporations have been at the forefront of implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). ERP has become one of the most successful technology software in improving the operation of organisations. Examples of international corporations which have implemented ERP software in operations are Procter & Gamble, Microsoft and Hilton hotels and restaurants (Trott and Hoecht, 2004). Hilton Hotels and Resorts is an international full-service hotel and restaurant operating in the United Kingdom. Hilton runs in 105 countries in five continents (Hilton Annual Report, 2017). The corporation has migrated from previous generation platforms to PeopleSoft ERP software (Mearian, 2013). Research indicates that execution of ERP planning software improves on company capabilities, helps managers and users in decision-making processes and advances the reporting process. Also, ERP has proved to be cost- and time-saving (Shannak, 2015).

Aim

The primary goal of the study is to analyse the corporation performance before and after the implementation of the ERP system. The independent variable will be the ERP software while the dependent variable will be the company performance.

Objectives

1. To evaluate the performance of Hilton Hotels before and after the application of the ERP software.

2. To examine if ERP has any significant effect on managerial practices.

3. To identify if the implementation of the ERP improved the Hilton company’s performance.

Methodology

The research will employ a scientific approach to data collection. The study will use secondary data sources. The mediating variables of analysis will be the organisational culture, structure, decision making, management, and the environment of operation. The moderating factors on hand will be Hilton training programs, team spirit and supportive management among others. The study will seek to analyse both qualitative and quantitative data obtained from the past studies on Hilton key performance areas. Data analysis will be categorised into two periods of the company’s operation: before and after the ERP implementation. The sources will be searched via Google Scholar and EconBiz databases.
