How do the Simpson-Mazzoli Act and the North American Free Trade Agreement change American Society at large? The agreement made some of the employers to look down upon the foreign workers and thus resulted in a slight reduction in Hispanic employment overall in the American society. The hiring of jobseekers in American society also changed a lot as the employers now moved to indirect employment by using subcontractors. The agreement of subcontracting is where a citizen of the United States agrees contractually with an employer in providing a given number of the workers, for a specific period to perform a particular task at a fixed pay rate, per worker. The indirect hiring was imposed on everyone regardless of their legality.

The American society also experienced a change in crime rate as legalizing immigration reduced crime by 3-5 percent (Coulter, 2015). There was also an increase in cheap labor which improved the economy. Also, there was an increase in the number of legal immigrants to the State, especially from Mexico. Most of the immigrants searched for jobs in places where hard labor was required. However, the citizens of America stated to question their impact on the economy as the population of immigration increased.

What is the impact of these acts and demographic shifts on Mexican Americans?

Poverty continued to strike the Mexican Americans due to the acts because they were denied hospitals and schools services, whereas it was considered that schooling made an impact on the lives of the people. The action was a move that was forbidden by the Supreme Court not to offer the services to undocumented immigrants. The Mexican-Americans converted from Catholic due to the support that they acquired from the Protestant groups in projects of social action to other religions that supported them.
