Niccolo Machiavelli and the Justification of War and National Security

Niccolo Machiavelli made a major contribution to the justification of issues related to war and national security, as shown in the Prince publication. Due to its integration of political, military, and diplomatic experience, the book is crucial to contemporary political theory. Machiavelli served as the Florentine Republic's chancellor and an expert on Italian Renaissance culture by the late 18th century. Military thinking was revolutionized by the effort. The Art of War by Sun Tzu believes that there is a connection between the military and political spheres, making military science a crucial component of governance policy. This assumption is made with pragmatism and practicality. The duplicity and Pragmatism from Machiavelli extended his era into modernity and due to the description in the text The Art of War. Notably, The Prince initiated the first legal, political, military and diplomatic treaties which are present in different parts of the world today. In the military filed, the work by Machiavelli is universal coverage of the concepts of principles of armed war, tactical doctrines, military art, forms of war diversification and equipping the soldiers for war. In this spirit, Machiavelli indicates that war is part of enhancing policies.

The Contribution of Machiavelli to Military Art and Science

The Art of War and The Prince of are platforms where Machiavelli decisively illustrates contribution to the military art which is a derivative of military science. Military art developments resulting from military thought are expressed in human theory and practice. The Prince aimed at improving rules, laws, and standards of national security. However, the program led to national reawakening. Italy signed a security treaty after Niccolo Machiavelli as an ideal and hypothetic prince negotiated the deal after long experience in diplomacy, missions, trips, and battles. The security treaty ensured that the young generation in Italy maintained virtue, dignity, patriotism and national unity.

National Security Concept

The early philosophers thought about justice and stability of states. Over 500 years earlier, the great city-states in Greek and other parts of Europe suffered continual warfare and regular conflicts. The political arena sought enactment of robust constitutions to guide the inter-state war. The events illustrate connection between external and internal politics. Such issues became essential to the unstable Italian cities during the Renaissance. Machiavelli indicated the excellent laws must be accompanied by what is 'good' that is an effective army. However, other historians suggested that the ability to maintain efficient military depends on the stability of the state that avoids internal conflicts and revolution through an adequately written constitution. However, Sun Tzu, a Chinese Strategist indicated that organizational strength relies on integration and stability irrespective of its total size. The country must have the capability to approach and survive external conflict thus preserve destruction of societies.

Military Science and National Security

National security according to Machiavelli must come from the military. In the 16th century, the military art and science coagulated and built national warfare and defense concepts. Furthermore, the great philosopher indicated that war was the only work of the Republic, kingdoms, and governments. Military science attempts to achieve the best military instruments in a nation to implement policies. It also covers the weapons used to respond appropriately in the case of eventual war. Moreover, the science properly develops other military theories based on based battles thus create attack and defense strategies. Subsequently, there are improvements in response or combat capabilities by the army.

Regional Security and Diplomatic Treaties

Regional security became an important factor in Europe during the 16th century. It became an exclusive problem of the state, but some countries reduced the issues to war and peace. It was not necessary to reduce the role of the country, but diplomatic treaties were concerned with security environment. The agreements meant to secure stability and peace in Europe especially along the Mediterranean Sea. The efforts comprised of minimizing strategic risks, issues, trends, and capability were likely to affect national interests among the states. Europe worked hard to unite the already polarized Spain, France, Austria and other nations. Consolidation meant reduced competition for control of access to strategic resources. Europeanization mitigated adverse effects of war. However, Machiavelli identified risk factors with principality security arrangements. The treaties created tension, conflict in some regions, destabilizing forces, domination of lethal military material and technologies. The forceful access to restricted resource forced mass migration of people and leading to social difficulties. The response to the security state, threats and risks to national independence, many countries used scientific, political, economic and military integration. There were military alliances and regional police security collaboration. The countries strengthened their institutions in the state security sectors. Consequently, the military enabled the state gain stability.

Conclusion

During the Renaissance period, there was the emphasis on the modern political establishment through political actors and institutions. As a realist, Machiavelli argued that even evil means were required to help in creating and preserving the desired regime. A country would become stable if it had a strong army protecting its subject from external aggression. Niccolo Machiavelli's The Prince and Sun Tzu's Art of War was pragmatic and 'win at any cost' approach to government ruling and warfare.
