Several hemophilic movements of the 20th century played a central role in supporting the gay efforts that came afterward. The struggle of these movements helped forge positive self-image, public views, and group identities towards sexual equality in the US society (Mezey 18-21). Specifically, Mattachine Society, Daughters of Bilitis, and both Sexual freedom League as well as National Sex Forum supported gay agenda in the 20th century through their roles and nature in the society.

Firstly, the gay liberation movement of the middle 20th century was the hemophilic Mattachine Society. According to Mezey this organization involved homosexual men in the middle 90s, and it served to link people with the same sexual orientation in ways that boosted their confidence in public (18). Besides, the movement helped reduce negative stigma against the gay population; thus, it enhanced the acceptance of the homosexuals in the society (Mezey 19). Similarly, gay men of the minority ethnic population, such as African Americans and Hispanics, also began to meet in bars to connect in ways that strengthened their acceptance in public.

Secondly, Daughters of Bilitis was another society of the middle of 20th

century that involved lesbians. It ensured that the population met in specific places to champion their rights. Among their agenda was fighting discrimination against them by the rest mainly straight majority (Mezey 20). The minority with straight people also supplemented this primarily white population in furthering their unique sexual nature. Thus, Daughters of Bilitis served as one of the movements that helped support LGBTQ rights in the United States.

Lastly, the bisexuals also forged the Sexual Freedom League as the movement that would liberate them in the face of the unaccepting public. Members of this group held trials with both homosexuals and heterosexuals in a bid to fix the truth about their sexual orientations (Mezey 21). In the process, they helped leverage the publicity about bisexuality. Similarly, the National Sex Forum became a movement that taught religious leaders and health professionals about LGBTQ issues.

In conclusion, several pro-gay movements of the 20th century helped support the LGBTQ agenda. Among them were Mattachine Society, Daughters of Bilitis, Sexual Freedom League, and National Sex Forum. The first two movements furthered interests of gay and lesbian people respectively as the last two served bisexuals. Apart from strengthening LGBTQ in the society, the movements enhanced publicity of the sexual orientations towards acceptability by the rest of the country.
