My approach is known as the 'Team theory,' and it regards nurses (healthcare providers) and members of society, particularly patients, as members of one team, with the team members cooperating to prevent and cure diseases. My theory posits that a more sanitary atmosphere, together with responsible and accountable nurses, will significantly reduce and prevent the majority of infections. The method is predicated on the assumption that practically all diseases are caused or exacerbated by the environment. As a result, a more sanitary environment is critical to the health of its inhabitants. After reviewing existing nursing theories, the theory is built for a better and stronger foundation. The theory argues that nursing which is enhanced by more accountable and responsible nurses, who experience better delegation of duties and responsibilities and who also observe strict ethics and moral standards, together with a better healthcare environment can positively impact health, clients/ patients, and their environment.

Assessment, diagnosis, planning/outcomes, intervention, and evaluation are central to all nursing processes. My theory proposes for nurses to be very deliberate, logical and rational when addressing their patient’s problems. For practical nursing, both the patients and the nurses have equal and active roles in the nursing process (Hunt, 2017). The theory takes into account that nursing has a huge responsibility of taking care of families and the whole community as well as individuals. While assessing patients, nurses are to take note of environmental health components; they are to routinely ask questions relating to prior exposure to physical or biological hazards or chemicals (Hunt, 2017). During their visits to their patients’ homes and workplaces, they ought to gain first-hand information about environmental factors that may negatively affect people’s health. Nurses are to have the ability to formulate diagnoses that consider environmental factors, because, without attention to environmental factors, there may be a continuous misdiagnosis of problems. In fact, it is likely that there will be more focus on secondary and tertiary levels of prevention, cure and intervention, rather than focusing on primary prevention, cure and causes of illnesses. Nurses are to inform patients, families, workers and the whole community about environmental hazards, what they should do to minimize the environmental hazards and hence gain their protection in the long run (Hunt, 2017). The theory realizes that for the effectiveness of the training program that is carried out by nurses, the nurses have to be trained in advocacy techniques that are more population and settings oriented. Knowledge of advocacy is very crucial because most issues are always entangled with political and social factors (Hunt, 2017). For evaluation of the outcomes of the above efforts, the outcome of individuals’ healthcare should be put into consideration.

My theory acknowledges that in the nursing industry, nurses and midwives are expected by all stakeholders to demonstrate the highest standards regarding being professional behavior (Hunt, 2017). Nurses have to recognize the relationship that exists between their professional responsibilities, professional integrity, and accountability because they should always be professionally accountable for their practice, attitudes and the actions they take which includes omissions and failure to take measures. The theory suggests that the nurses and midwives should always act within the law and strictly follow the rules and regulations of the nursing and midwifery boards of their various states (Hunt, 2017). The theory requires nurses to stick to the ethical and professional values, code of regulation and practice; as well as other standards and codes put up by the boards of various States. Nurses are to be accountable for their health and should get help in managing their health conditions if they affect their ability to practice. It is the role of nurses to act as lawyers on behalf of patients who require them to ensure their rights and interests are protected. It is always ethical for nurses to care for patients in emergency and those whose life is at risk despite the nurse’s conscientious objection that is based on religious or moral beliefs (George, 2014). Nurses are also required to always maintain a professional relationship with patients and avoid providing some patients with preferential treatment. The theory makes it a must for nurses to have indemnity insurance for protecting the patients’ safety and that of the public at large.

Delegation is when a nurse’s duty for performing a task is given to another member of the staff while the nurse still retains the accountability for that task’s outcome. Responsibility can be delegated while accountability cannot (George, 2014). A delegation of duty is based on the needs of the patients, the skills of the staff and the staff’s job description. It is always right to assign the right person the right tasks under the right circumstances. The nurses who delegate duties must communicate with and direct the person (George, 2014). The assigning nurse has the responsibility to supervise and determine if the work was carried out correctly, appropriately, safely and competently. The assigning nurse must balance the client’s needs and the expertise of the delegated every set goal set by the team is achievable; the team members are the nurses and the patients, and staff (George, 2014). The theory is rooted in the belief that with the unity and harmony of team members, their goal is a hygienic environment for disease prevention and cure.
