Most families in American culture that work for various corporations encounter family discord. Working long hours is the cause of this type of conflict. The most frequently used phrase in this situation is "Karoshi," which means death as a result of lengthy hours of effort. Additionally, the workers are refused leave. Mothers are subject to deductions for disruptions caused by childbirth and childrearing when taking mandatory absences, such as maternity leaves. This is known as the "mommy penalty." Some parents face discrimination because of their parental responsibilities. Since they are overloaded by family responsibilities, single mothers make up the majority of those afflicted in this situation. Fathers are also discriminated since it is not their gender role to care for the children. However there are solutions to this problem. If the solutions are well implemented it is possible that the workers will be working under favorable conditions.

Key words: conflict, family, responsibilities, work and workers

For the company to be family friendly there are some of the common practices that needs to be implemented so as to adequately cater needs of the workers at large.in the first case; employees should be given extended paid leave. The purpose of the leave is to enable them to attend to family issues and responsibilities. While in the leave, they are supposed to receive their payment as usual, so as to allow them to provide for their families’ needs (Rehel & Baxter, n.d., pg.7). Secondly, the workers should work at high-quality working conditions with flexible rules to enable them to attend to family matters and cater for the needs of their families. Lastly, all workers should be treated equally without any discrimination based on the family responsibilities

Despite the above practices, most of the American workers are working under the miserable situation. Whereby, they are exploited in their workplaces. This is because of the changing economy whereby every household needs dual income. For the single parenthood a family, the parent is required to work full time so as to afford the needs of his/her family members. The changing roles in the current society are also an issue in families (PATTEN, 2015, pg.23). This is because most of the women are educated and thus have moved to work outside the homes. Therefore the fathers are also required to do some of the house chores. The mindset of the workers is also another factor. This is because some of them think that it is only through working long hours that they can be competitive. Lastly, there is no set legislature that looks into the issues of workers.

I think that most of these practices have not been implemented since most of the companies focus on the issue of profit maximization. Whereby, most of the companies in America have entirely focused on the issue of making high profits. The second issue is of ignorance. The workers in different companies are not aware of their rights as employees and thus they end being exploited. Another issue is in competition. This is because most of the people are educated and ready to work. This has caused flooding in the job market, and therefore some of the workers end up being exploited in for high productivity in the company. Lastly, change the work schedule is another factor; hence one worker can be willingly on duty for twenty-four hours.

The married working couples, experience this kind of conflict in high intensity. This is because; most of them find it very difficult to balance between work and family responsibilities. Such parents claim to work full time due to financial circumstances. Most of the mothers who are working are not ready to perform the house chores since they argue that they also contribute to the family income. However, fathers are much more impacted by this conflict; this is according to the National Study research of changing workforce which was carried out for thirty years. This is also evident in the Pew Research since most of the fathers are in need of the high paying jobs (PARKER & WANG, 2013, pg. 12). They, therefore, they have less time with their children. This is because; they want to adhere to the trending norm that “good fatherhood is all about earnings. “The single mothers are also mostly affected by the work-family conflict.one of the major reason for this is that they are the breadwinners of their families. Therefore they need to work hard so as to afford the basic needs. Such parents are forced to work full time so as to earn a living

To deal with the conflict, it is necessary that, the American basic labor standard should be updated, so as to account for the fact that most workers also need to attend to the family responsibilities. Fairness should also be increased in workplaces by ending all kinds of discrimination against workers. The working families with child caring responsibility should be given all the necessary support (Williams & Boushey, n.d., pg.18) t. The employees should also be educated on the responsive workplace policies. Finally workers should receive payment while on leave

Conclusion

To achieve these, there is need for a strong coalition that addresses the needs of the poor, professionals and the middle class without discrimination on the basis of class. There is also a need for the American government to come a legislature to set up rules basically for the protection of works
