Migration and Immigration

Migration of individuals from one location to another is referred to as immigration. The immigrants do not have citizenship in the nation they are moving to because they are not residents of that nation. Numerous reasons, including employment, political exile, the need for services like healthcare, business opportunities, and many others, drive immigrants to relocate outside of their home nation. According to research, the migration procedure is very important for both the sending and receiving countries. Numerous studies have found that immigration promotes economic expansion in the host nation. The Rogerian argument on the immigration focuses on general conflict-resolution technique which is based on common ground as opposed to the polarized debate. This essay, therefore, discusses the Rogerian approach on the immigration.

Views on Immigration in the United States

There are varied views on the roles and benefits of the immigration in the United States. While a lot of Americans believes that the illegal immigrants are very instrumental to the economic growth as they provide cheap services, few believes that they have contributed to the unemployment which has become a rampant issue. Anti-immigration advocates believe that the immigration has compromised the security of the United States. For instance, during the 1988 attack on the World Trade Center by the Osama bin Laden, it was traced that the immigrants were used as the agents of the terror. The US government spends billions of dollars on illegal immigrants on key issues such as food, medical issues, education and many other issues. If the immigration process continues, more money that would have been invested in the profitable ventures will be wasted in the United States. This implies that illegal immigration is becoming a great liability in the United States. It should be noted that the legal immigration in a bigger way has boosted the economy in the United States. (Chirswick n.p) The huge amount of dollars used to cater for the welfare of illegal immigrants would have been used to uplift other sectors of economy. However, the pressure imposed by the immigration process has facilitated the rising cases of the illegal migration. "The government has long declined to treat immigrants as full human beings, and nowhere is that more clear than in the realm of constitutional rights." It should be noted that immigrants contribute to the progress of America. America is one of the best countries across the world because its founders embraced the power of diversity. The immigrants living in America, particularly the skilled professionals, are the masterminds behind the massive growth of the GDP (Cole n.p). Through the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation, the immigrants have not been left behind. They have made America be the world's business hub and the destination of the dreamers. We should embrace such diversity but only through the following of the legal means.

Benefits and Costs of Immigration

The champions of the illegal immigration have been claiming that the illegal immigrants benefit the US economy in a major way. The key factors include increased money in circulation, general expansion of cheap skilled labor pool, and the expansion of tax revenue. However, critics have a different perception. They claim that some countries spend around 4 million US dollars each year for holding various illegal immigrants in the prisons. For example, Pennsylvania spends around 13.3 million dollars of the taxpayers' money to cater to the needs and welfare of the immigrants. Furthermore, it is estimated that amnesty of the illegal immigrants costs the tax of 28.8 billion dollars annually in the United States, which are used for welfare, food, medical issues, education, and many other issues. If the immigration process continues, more money that would have been invested in profitable ventures will be wasted in the United States. ".We might save money and diminish incentives to immigrate illegally if we denied undocumented aliens public services." It is true that illegal immigration is a liability, and ensuring that all the measures are put in place to curb the problem will lead to the saving of more money in the United States (Tierney 564). Rehabilitation of the illegal immigrants in the correctional centers will only worsen the matter since it encourages more illegal immigrations.

Impact of Illegal Immigration

Illegal immigration is harming America in a major way. The illegal immigrants largely propagate the escalating cases of the drug epidemic. According to research, around 72,000 immigrants are arrested every year for drug-related cases in the United States. Sadly, not all drug traffickers are convicted, meaning that a lot of them are working behind the scenes to continue harming the dignity of America. The cases of homicide have been a real worry in America. However, the government seems to do little about the situation, and in the process, the future of handling the case, as caused by the immigrants, appears to be unsuccessful. However, there are few negative cases of the derailment of the economic mainly when the low-skilled immigrants unite with the low-skilled natives. Studies further show that if the barriers to immigration are eliminated around the world, then it will have a major impact on the world GPB, where it is estimated that the gain will range from 67 to 147 percent. Researchers are in unanimous agreement that the only best way of raising the economies of the developing countries is to remove immigration barriers so that developed and developing countries interact for mutual benefits. There have been mixed reactions on immigration, whereby some findings link the immigration to the increasing level of crime (Hanson n.p). Researchers believe that there is a bigger percentage of challenges on assimilation caused by immigration process. As such, the major cases have emerged that 95 percent of murder warrants seem to be for the illegal aliens.

Conclusion

In conclusion, immigration in the United States is a critical debate. The illegal immigration appears to have caused more harm than good to welfare and the future progress of the United States. Legal immigration can easily be budgeted for and managed by the government, and resolutions on the immigration be made. In my opinion, America has to protect its dignity and values of embracing the diversity for the common good. This can be achieved if vigilance is taken to handle the illegal immigration in the country. Therefore, illegal immigration should not have room in the US if only the responsible authorities will work tirelessly against the challenge.
