A Retirement Speech

It's a pleasure to have so many people here to honor and thank our comrade, neighbor, and colleague George Hawthorn. This day marks a significant milestone in George's career, as he takes a break from work. The problem with unemployment, in my opinion, is that there is no way to take a day off. There are, however, many things to do except watch daytime television. Aside from that, we're here to honor the efforts and perseverance of a man who is considered to be tenacious until the job is done. Unlike some people who begin their retirement way before they stop working, George has been an example of an upright, kind, and helpful individual in and outside work. I can remember one time when he gave out his umbrella to a particular lady who was stranded in the rain, an act of kindness I will never forget. This is not the first time we have come together for his sake. Twice, I have had the chance to be part of George’s promotion parties which is a clear indication that he was dedicated and faithful in his endeavors at his workplace. We cannot ignore his participation and help in our neighborhood as well. His involvement in charities has helped a lot in the community.

I could go on and on, but I understand that the last thing you would like to do is listen to a never-ending speech from a stranger and you have the right to be impatient. But this is a time to be treasured with the presence of friends and family and the people you love, and for this reason, I wish my long-time friend a happy and blessed future with warm congratulations for what he has achieved so far.
