Article Critique

Due to the distinctive method it takes on articles in providing an accurate assessment, article critique is a crucial component of essay writing. By identifying the author's thoughts in the article, both in the article's favor and against, article critique helps readers understand an excerpt better. This essay will examine a nonverbal communication article and provide a critique of its findings. The article by The Balance titled "Believe What You See: How to Use Non-Verbal Communication in Hiring" serves as the subject of this draft. This feature focuses on the role played by non-verbal cues in the recruitment process which is very important in the course of acquiring new staff in offices (Naim et al. 6).

Desired Theory

In this article, the aspired theory in use is the identification of how non-verbal communication can significantly determine the ability of a person to land a job position in an organization. It is the opinion of the article that for many managers in the different organizations who have the mandate of picking new employees, the manner in which the interviewee carries themself provides a better understanding of the person as opposed to an oral or a verbal interview (Naim et al. 4). Therefore, the article is working in the direction of confirming the positive impact non-verbal communication has in the recruitment process.

Process of Acquiring Results

The report used a unique approach to obtaining results for the findings for this article. The authors of the editorial organized a job interview where their main area of interest was to identify the non-verbal communication that provided hints of the suitability of each of the candidate. In that case, the authors of the article had the desire of identifying the appropriateness in skill, behavioral characteristics and the culture in a work environment of the interviewees. Their method was to determine and analyze the most common non-verbal communication with the added insight of identifying the pointers that made them suitable for the position (Naim et al. 3). The identifiers included first impressions, attentiveness, and eye contact, dressing and accessories, posture and finally a handshake. The authors of the article focused on the interviewee's response to their questions based on the listed identifiers.

Results Espoused

After careful evaluation without an emphasis on the paper qualification of the respondents, the authors of this article were able to find the people who excelled in the non-verbal communication interview had glowing CVs (Naim et al. 5). The following was obtained:

  • It was identified, interviewees who sat upright in their chairs and talked with assurance were confident and committed to work.
  • People who greeted with firm handshakes were eager to work and could be counted upon for duty.
  • It was identified, despite the arrangement of an interview, whether formal or not, a candidate who wears a suit during the interview shows how professional the person will be with the clients and the manner in which they will get feedback from them.
  • A good employee is one who leans forward with proportion and maintains some degree of eye contact without staring and is eager to take notes.

Shortcomings or Suggestions for the Article

It is quite evident the article and the study conducted is very insightful in future employment of people in various positions. The study seems to have been carried out hurriedly, and there is the possibility that the research did not cover or identify all the non-verbal communication cues that are in play in the different environments. Also, for a better understanding of this theory, the authors of the article should consider sampling people of various ages and backgrounds to establish a broad range of results (Naim et al. 6).

Effect of the Article on Future Communication

I personally find this article providing proper guidance in the manner in which people will communicate in the future. People will identify that communication is broad and at times what you do not say but express carries more weight in the way people will understand you. For individuals looking for employment opportunities, they will know their interviews begin the minute they walk through the doors of the organization and how they present themselves. In today's world where competition is growing by the day, interviewers will have a variety of non-verbal communication to use to ascertain suitable employees(Naim et al. 2).

Conclusion

In my analysis, I like this article because it helps one understand the importance of non-verbal communication, especially in the work place. Additionally, I find this article raising various arguments among interested parties in the section of body language in non-verbal communication. Many may argue, how people who may have disabilities or suffer from mental condition which may affect the manner in which they communicate non-verbally yet, they may possess the right qualifications for the position (Naim et al. 4). I will use this information to access my readiness for particular positions based on the manner in which I present myself. I also believe, is important to share this information since that way, many will have the opportunity to reevaluate their approach towards non-verbal communication.
