Racial Harmony in Texas

When people of various racial and ethnic backgrounds put aside their differences and coexist harmoniously, this is referred to as racial harmony. (Ishak, 144). Racism against some ethnic groups has a long tradition in Texas. However, some events in the neighborhood blatantly display racial harmony and cooperation. This is likely to have occurred in Texas when it was held by the Spanish, Mexicans, and Anglo nations between 1500 and the end of the Civil War.

Unity in Spanish-Controlled Texas

Beginning in 1821, this kind of unity was present in Spanish-controlled Texas. During this time, a large number of Spaniards moved to this area. Most were motivated by their urge to create wealth for themselves whereas others were seeking to teach the religion of Christianity. Racial harmony was portrayed by the Spaniards inter-marrying with the locals. In addition to that, during the Mexican-owned Texas that ran from early 1821 to 1836, there was an act of harmony among the races. This took place when slavery was abolished in the region, and all residents started enjoying equal rights. Finally, unity was brought out between 1836 and 1865 (Anglo-owned Texas). Residents in the district chose in unison despite their racial or ethnic differences to recognize Catholic as their only faith in Christianity.

Importance of Harmony and Peace

In conclusion, harmony and peace is the basic foundation and need of any given region. For a nation to prosper, these two elements should be put in place. In addition to that, for peace to prevail people from different races and ethnic groups should live harmoniously by putting their differences aside (Parkhurst, 278). Therefore, the government and the residents should ensure brotherhood and amity prevail in their day to day activities.
