Different levels of power, politics, influence, and leadership effectiveness

Peers typically pay attention to every word I say because they have referent power. The degree of trust between us has increased as a result of the cordial relationships I foster with everyone. My motivating speeches have had a big impact on the type of peer contact I have. In addition, influence comes from the level of power an individual has inside a group (Scouller). Being a role model suggests that I probably have a big impact on my peers. I think the referent powers are what are causing the influence. Concerning the matters of political, I cannot assert that I am better. Politics in not part of me, I therefore attentively listen to their opinions and only air my opinion when asked. However, being inactive in politics doesn’t imply I am a poor leader. I usually apply my inborn skills, and further, the ones learned in the class to effectively lead my peers. Having known that my peers look on me as the role model, I do apply various leadership skills that have assisted me to lead and coordinate different groups. Therefore, if I am asked to make a comment regarding these metrics, I can confidently extrapolate that I am an excellent leader.

Self-assessment with subordinates

As a modern and enlightened leader, my association with subordinates does not significantly vary. The only element that is added includes professionalism on how I approach various issues. I only exercise power given by the post I hold. The power I exert on individuals is only meant to make things work as expected. Furthermore, the healthy relationship that I maintain with the subordinates and the balance of power I apply makes them always listen to my suggestions. Therefore, it is a fact that I usually have an influence on the subordinates. Concerning politics, I am not actively involved, but I always analyze to understand the implication of organization or group conflicts to fix a problem before it distracts smooth operation. Lastly, I ensure that everyone is accountable for assigned roles. I provide the required resources and supporting environment just to see things happen as planned. By doing such, I qualify to become an effective leader.

How I fit in the organization

The organizational structure, culture, and my peers support at work match with my expectations. The employees like teamwork and in many of the tasks that require a contribution from other members, I have been at the forefront to lead and influence them to focus on goals and objectives as a way to enhance effectiveness in performance. My skills and experience are the primary keys that help in coming up with excellent ideas and opinions that ensure a high degree of competency. Improvement on group dynamics, being culturally diverse, and the ability to cope with change facilitate fitting into this organization (Lussier & Achua). Moreover, my communication skills have increased effective interaction with every member and sharing issues that can cause conflicts among the stakeholders. I frequently meet with the peers and subordinates to seek their opinions and closely work with all departmental managers.

How I contribute to organizational success

I am always empowered towards performing amazing jobs by aligning my personal goals to those of the organization and encouraging workers to focus on improving the overall growth and success of our business. I make decisions based on opinions from all people, thus am in a position to deal with industry issues and the better coordination of all functions. I am able to cope with the emerging trends by utilizing new technologies and innovation in every part. I use my knowledge and abilities effectively, facilitate brainstorming, ensure collaboration and use of the evaluation metrics that help in identifying whether the actual results tally with the expectations.

Strengths, weakness, and opportunities

My strengths include effective personal communication skills, quick learner, make sound decisions when solving problems and developing strategies, I am a natural leader who is self-oriented, and moreover, am hardworking which has aided my dedication and commitment. I have the weakness of commanding everything to be done right, am impatient and time pressure always contributes to my emotional reactions. I think I have to improve thoroughly on these areas as they have been detrimental to my productivity. Opportunities include engaging others to provide personal feedback, receiving coaching that can enhance the leadership skills, ensuring equality in work-related tasks, and learning from others with the same roles as the ones I occupy.
