Comparison of Clinical Nurse Educator Programs at Oklahoma State University

Based on the characteristics of the programs listed, compare and contrast the two universities. To study in a university is a great opportunity. A number of the high school seniors are faced with a lot of decisions to make. Among the decision, they have to make is the university they want to attend once they complete their high school. And when it comes to selecting a university, it becomes one of the significant decisions of a high a student (Allen, Eby & Lentz, 2006). The students, with the assistance of their parents, will have to consider some factors to select a university and a course their kid will pursue. To me, I wish to study at Oklahoma State University and pursue Clinical Nurse Educator. The reasons why I want to pursue my degree and masters at Oklahoma State University are as follows.

Research Opportunities

First, the university gives their students an opportunity to do research opportunities. It is the only university in the United States of America that provides the students with a chance to conduct research on a topic of their own. Second, it offers career services (Giger, 2016). It is always stressful for a student to secure a job just after university. However, the university helps the students acquire a job opportunity just after university. Third, it offers faculty interaction. Unlike the other universities, OSU offers their students a chance to continually access different faculties. Fourth is that there are a lot of programs within a given degree that a student can choose from (Allen, Eby & Lentz, 2006). Another reason I prefer to pursue clinical nurse educator in the institution is that they shape future nurses appropriately. Nurse educators get the opportunity to teach in schools and hospital settings, produce students with high market demand, and make students become great leaders apart from being effective clinical nurse educators.

Programs Offered at Oklahoma State University

Moreover, in Oklahoma States University, the clinical nurse educator programs they offer are the Masters of Clinical Nurse Educator Program and Degree in Clinical Nurse Educator Program (Giger, 2016). The requirements that are needed by the university to pursue masters in clinical nurse educator include the student should have completed a bachelor of science in nursing from a known institution, possess a current license to practice as a registered nurse and have completed a research methodology with a grade C and above. The other requirements involve having an average points of above 3.0, applied to the university and passing a faculty interview (Allen, Eby & Lentz, 2006). On the other hand, for one to pursue a degree in nursing, the student should have applied to the university, have an average points score of above 2.5, and successfully accepted to the university. Concerning the school philosophy of nursing, the two programs have the same philosophy of nursing.

National and Local Standing

Besides that, the degree program is only accredited by the National League for Nursing Commission and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (Giger, 2016). While the master’s programs are accredited by the National League for Nursing Commission and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. It is also accredited by Education Accreditation Council and Council on Accreditation Commission of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. In addition, regarding national and local standing, clinical nurse educator programs are valued (Allen, Eby & Lentz, 2006). The nurse who has pursued masters programs is respected more at the local and the national level. The nurse who has pursued a degree program has fewer chances of educating in schools and hospitals than the way the nurse who have pursued a masters in clinical nurse educator.

Admission Requirements and Faculty Qualification

In regards to admission requirements, a master’s student is required by the institution to have his degree transcripts, the degree certificate in clinical nurse educator, undergraduate statistic course, RN license, and a curriculum vitae, write an essay of a given topic, and pass an interview (Giger, 2016). On the other hand, the degree programs require the students to have passed junior high school, achieved the set cluster points, successfully accepted to the institution, and have an interest in the field of study. When it comes to the issue of faculty qualification (Allen, Eby & Lentz, 2006), a student must first qualify to pursue the degree program and have the faculty approval then be able to pursue the masters and be approved by the faculty.

Institutional Climate and Resources

Furthermore, the two programs are similar regarding Institutional climate (Giger, 2016). The two programs might be different in levels but deal with the same issues of nursing. Also, the degree programs are at a lower level than the master program. The resources that are allocated by the institution to pursue the master’s program in clinical nurse educator are more than the funds allocated to the degree program. When it comes to clinical facilities, assistance, and financial support, the students in both programs get access to these services (Allen, Eby & Lentz, 2006). The difference comes in the level of attention and help each student needs. Finally, the two programs are not equally convenient. The master’s program needs a lot of attention and more educational background thus less comfort than the degree program in a clinical nursing educator. The program outcome from the two programs requires that the student will be able to be an efficient clinical nurse educator and assist in the hospital or the school.
