Cooperative Learning in 7th Grade

Small-group instruction, often known as cooperative learning, is a type of instruction in which students are put into groups of three or fewer to complete a common goal. I would employ cooperative learning as a 7th grade teacher to make sure that all of my students stay in school, that they develop relationships with one another, and that their accomplishments have a long-lasting influence. Incorporating this kind of education also guarantees that students advance in their capacity for critical thought, spoken communication, and self-esteem (Agarwal, & Nagar, 2011). Despite the fact that, the students' accomplish the task together, they are assigned specific duties and roles individually and this creates accountability. Additionally, this method of learning ensures that all students improve their personal understanding concerning the topic. Since all group members are not only determined to learn what was taught, but also to assist their team members and by doing that achievement atmosphere is created.

Challenges of Cooperative Learning

Some of the issues that hinder the success of cooperative learning are the issues concerning politeness in the group, being selfish and not willing share information, as well as lack of submission to the set rules and regulations in the group. Adjusting to the format of working as a group and time management issues also create major challenge in ensuring that cooperative learning succeeds. Majority of these challenges arise because some of the students are perfectionists or have a dominant personality and they prefer working alone. And if this happens interdependence is broke and group dissolved (Agarwal, & Nagar, 2011).

Conclusion

In conclusion, cooperative learning is currently gaining popularity because it is raising achievement of students, promoting thinking creativity, and working together. The challenges facing cooperative learning can be solved easily by noting the cause and addressing it accordingly.
